“A Whale Of A Wassail!” Nantucket Noel & Nantucket New Years

Incredible sightings of humpback and North Atlantic Right whales along our shores this past summer compelled us to dub this holiday season’s festivities….a whale of a wassail! It all begins on the day after Thanksgiving and culminates on January 2, with a cornucopia of activities and events in between to delight (as the song goes) kids from 1 to 92.

At dusk on November 24, an exuberant crowd gathers on cobblestoned Main Street for the annual Tree Lighting and Community Caroling Ceremony. Our inimitable Town Crier — garbed in signature top hat and crimson scarf —leads the countdown. At the stroke of one, 100 plus balsam trees magically illuminate, inciting a chorus of oohs and ahs as traditional holiday carols fill the brisk air.

Our world-renowned Christmas Stroll Weekend (December 1–3) follows, featuring Santa arriving on Straight Wharf via his nautical sleigh, leading a Parade up Main Street flanked by throngs of kids and adults. The town is transformed into a scene from Dickens, replete with Victorian carolers, festively decorated storefronts and a European-style marketplace….our beloved “Stroll.”

On New Year’s Eve, the Nantucket Hotel’s Grand Ballroom is transformed into a winter wonderland to ring in 2018 with themed festivities, a lavish dessert buffet, light bites and a champagne toast. Join us in lifting your cup and toasting to what will undoubtedly be…a whale of a wassail!
