Bloom Watchers Welcome
Named by Texas Highways Magazine a Top 40 Travel Destination, Palestine has historical sites, arts and cultural events, architectural gems, festivals, outdoor fun, and nightlife — all with loads of East Texas charm. Add in a big splash of springtime, Palestine is the best place to see the graceful blooms of the season in late February through early April.
Mother Nature always provides a breathtaking display of elegance when the red buds add a bright pop of magenta to the winter landscape in the parks and forests throughout the area. Soon to follow is the native dogwood. Opening as a small green bud and pillowing out into a white clover shaped blossom, this plant provides a beautiful display for visitors of Davey Dogwood Park — a 254 acre park with five and a half miles of driving trails and over seven miles of hiking and biking trails.
Seeing the dogwoods is more than enough reason to visit Palestine this spring, but that’s not all the town has to offer. Take in all the historic architecture, which has more buildings on the National Register of Historic Places than any other mainland city in Texas, or pamper your taste buds at any of the town’s local eateries. Taste what lies behind the Pine Curtain and experience the foodie scene from fine dining to pub fare, and one of Texas’ favorite pie stops and oldest bakeries.
Step back in time aboard the scenic Texas State Railroad, the official railroad of Texas. From the moment you step on-board one of the handsomely refurbished train cars, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a simpler, more leisurely time. Order a drink and relax as you lose yourself on a four-hour, 25-mile rail journey through the Piney Woods of East Texas, where history is just part of the journey.
Home to the Texas Dogwood Trails Celebration, Old Time Music and Dulcimer Festival, 1836 Chuckwagon Races, Dogwood Jamboree and Haunted Texas Jailhouse, Palestine is graced with stately homes, gorgeous scenic drives and a Texas friendly welcome that offers a true Southern experience.
