Visit Salina – Kansas FULL OF SURPRISES
There are so many reasons to choose Salina for a quick getaway! The arts are alive with concerts, comedy, theatre, exhibits, cinema, galleries, public art, museums, and festivals…all adding to your unique experience when you visit Salina. Family fun awaits with our wonderful zoo, wildlife museum and semi-pro sports teams for baseball, basketball and indoor football.
The Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts presents diverse entertainment in an intimate setting of a 1,200 seat, beautifully restored 1930’s theatre. The Salina Community Theatre stages productions all throughout the year in both their Kephart Theatre and Sunflower Theatre, parts of their recent addition and renovation. The Salina Bicentennial Center presents concerts, trade shows and family shows as well.
The arts are unavoidable in Salina — and that is exactly how we like it! Public Art in the form of murals, sculpture and more are all a part of our cultural fabric. SculptureTour Salina is our downtown outdoor exhibition of sculptures on loan from across the country which changes each spring.
Salina Art Center presents exciting exhibitions and programs, and their Cinema exceeds all expectations of a small city in Kansas. The Smoky Hill River Festival gets underway the second weekend of June each year. You’ll be immersed visually from the Fine Arts area to the Four Rivers Fine Crafts Market, and the installations throughout Oakdale Park. Music, food and fun for all ages — THAT is “The Festival,” Salina’s signature event!
Art of another variety, the ‘kool’ and fast kind, rolls into Salina the last weekend of July with the KKOA Leadsled Spectacular. More than 1,800 hot rods, classics and ‘kustoms’ are here for the weekend in beautiful Oakdale Park.
Rolling Hills Zoo is a must-see! Kansas’ newest zoo presents 131 species, 449 ‘residents,’ all at home in this facility, nestled amidst the Kansas prairie. Rolling Hills also features a wildlife museum, creating two unforgettable experiences in one destination.
Explore our regional heritage at the Smoky Hill Museum downtown through both permanent and changing exhibits, and the brand new Curiosity Shop children’s area. Find eclectic items of agricultural history at the Yesteryear Museum, where also on the grounds are a one-room school house, an old country church, and playground equipment from days past.
Relax and soak up the sun while you spend a summer day at Kenwood Cove Aquatics Park, featuring a lazy river, zero-entry pool and 1,400 feet of slides — a wet and wild adventure! If golf is your idea of relaxation, you’ll love our three 18-hole courses!
Whether you prefer quaint and quirky specialty shops, or major retailers, Salina has what you need for retail therapy. Your visit won’t be complete until you enjoy a great meal at a local eatery, or perhaps partake in a locally brewed beer. End your day at one of our comfortable hotels and inns, as we have a wide variety to choose from. Go to VisitSalinaKS.org to see our online Visit Salina Guide for more information and ideas!
