History comes alive at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center as exhibits tell the story of the people, places and events that make up the local geographic area known as the “Barrens.” When visiting Fort Williams, an earthen fortification built during the Civil War, history lovers will nderstand why Union Forces built Ft. Williams high on a hill near downtown Glasgow to protect the “Calvary Rendezvous & Depot” from CSA attack.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park, only minutes from Glasgow, is a water-lover’s paradise offering boating, swimming, a marina, hiking, horseback riding, camping, picnicking, golf and fine dining. The Brigadoon State Nature Preserve, located off Highway 31-E South, offers miles of rugged hiking, bird watching, and photographic opportunities.

The Annual Glasgow Highland Games take place the weekend following Memorial Day. The Celebration begins on Friday with a luncheon and a Ceilidh in the evening. Fun continues on Saturday and Sunday with athletic competitions, whisky tasting, Celtic music, pipe bands, and vendors.

Watch the Caber Toss, Stone Put, and Hammer Throw! The Games take place on St. Andrews Field and Strathbarren Field at Barren River Lake State Park. An exciting tribute to Scottish heritage!
