Easy to Get to, Hard to Leave
Surrounded by picturesque countryside and boasting small town charm, there’s plenty to see and do while visiting Dillon, Montana. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy boating on Clark Canyon Reservoir, or spend a day or two fishing on the Beaverhead or Big Hole Rivers, a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream!
Another way to experience the scenic beauty of the area is to go for a hike in the East Pioneer Mountains or at Bannack State Park, one of Montana’s premier state parks, located just a short drive away. Here you will find a fully intact ghost town, with activities throughout the year. You can also visit Virginia City, another ghost town near Dillon. For those hoping to snap photos of animals in their unspoiled habitat, Red Rock National Wildlife Refuge is a ‘must-see’ destination.
Following the Lewis & Clark Trail? Dillon is home to several sites including Clark’s Lookout and Beaverhead Rock that are noted in the journals. History buffs are also sure to appreciate the Big Hole Battlefield, where the Nez Perce were confronted by Custer’s Troops, while the whole family will have fun digging for crystals at Crystal Park, or walking the shores of the Ruby Reservoir looking for garnets.
