Cross Country Skiing & Snow Shoeing in Dutchess

Make winter memorable with cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Get a vigorous work-out on miles of trails through evergreens or on open golf course ranges. Our scenic beauty offers an escape to an unspoiled countryside reminiscent of days gone by. Relax in the open air as you take in the season’s scenic solitude. Who knew exercising and exploring nature in the winter could be so much fun?

• James Baird State Park Golf Course, Lagrange
• Mills Norrie State Park Dinsmore Golf Course, Staatsburg
• Dutchess Rail Trail 13+-mile multi-use linear County Park; links to regional trail network
• Harlem Valley Rail Trail Amenia to Millerton

Bowdoin Park has a great big hill for sledding, where hay bale barricades provide safe stopping conditions. Glide around the 76 x 80 foot portable skating rink next to Pavilion 5 from 9am to 5pm daily whenever temperatures allow for a solid freeze, creating a smooth skating surface (bring skates). At Poughkeepsie’s Mid-Hudson Civic Center, go ice skating or play a pick-up hockey game without depending on Mother Nature at the McCann Ice Arena.

Snowmobile aficionados can fly over the winter landscape at Taconic State Park’s Rudd Pond or Taconic-Hereford MUA in Dover Plains. End your day sipping hot chocolate or locally distilled bourbon by the fireplace in a quaint, country inn. Kick-off your shoes and snuggle into a down quilt in a Victorian four-poster bed!
